IDEN based Android phone coming to Nextel & Boost.

Publish On 01-13-2010 , 2:41 PM

I belatedly noticed the news that a Motorola Android device dubbed "Opus One"  in the works for the IDEN network, with an expected March 2010 release target. Even though this could be old news to many of you, I wanted to comment on it as it seems pretty significant to me.

The device is expected to include Android OS 1.5. On the hardware side it includes a bright 3.1″ hVGA 320×480, a 3 megapixel camera, WiFi, Bluetooth and a MicroSD expansion slot.

While I have read several comments out in cyberspace that the phone will not sell since IDEN is a dead network, I think you might be surprised.
This device is one of the hottest IDEN ones to hit the airwaves in some time, and is is expected to be functional on both the Nextel and Boost Mobile networks.
That alone would secure it more sales, at least for IDEN standards.
More importantly though I have noticed there are plenty of Boost customers out there using old Nextel BlackBerry devices (AKA BoostBerry), and I would think this device would be a pretty tempting upgrade for those customers.
Considering the state of the economy, a modern Android device on a Boost Mobile budget might be just what we all need.

1. Pretty good characteristics , but motorola means nothing for me. What you think can motorola do something innovative or this is just a funny joke and we will see something copied ?
